Libra Energy: Boundaries, Balance + the Art of Sacred Relationships
The sun is in Libra Season from September 22nd, the Autumnal Equinox or Mabon, until October 22nd. Fall Equinox represents an equal balance of darkness and light, and Libra is the archetype of the Scales, the only Zodiac archetype that is an object rather than a living being or a mythical creature. Libra is also the Cardinal Air sign. Cardinal astrology signs mark the beginning of each season, and according to Ayurveda, the air element increases during the fall.
The Zodiac wheel is a journey through the archetypes. Aries represents the sense of self, or ego, beginning the journey. Taurus continues the journey with the physical body and five physical senses. Gemini represents the analytical mind, Cancer the emotional body, and Leo the heart and solar plexus! Virgo is all about efficiency, refining any unhealthy mental or emotional patterns into selfless service and humility. In Astrology, Libra’s growth journey is around the healthy balance between self and other. Libra craves harmony, diplomacy, collaboration, and relationships that feel beautiful and reciprocal. We call this time of year “cuffing season” because Libra energy is all about relationships: romantic, platonic, business, and community. But Libra season also begins “shadow work season.” The Sun is considered “in fall” here, literally half as bright, and shorter days after the equinox. Libra’s growth journey is about learning that harmony without honesty is just suppression in a pretty outfit. When we avoid external conflict, we actually create internal conflict. And when we finally find our voice after years of swallowing it, we can overcorrect, swinging hard in the opposite direction — anger spilling outward because we’re no longer directing it internally. True harmony isn’t passive. It’s courageous. It requires radical honesty paired with respectful communication. And as we will discuss, Venus has gone retrograde in Scorpio, a sign where it is not the happiest or most at home. While Libra understands that reciprocity is everything in relationships, Scorpio teaches us that if energy only flows one way, then toxic resentment is quick to follow.
The mantra for Libra season: kindness is not weakness. Empathy without boundaries is weakness.
