Scorpio Energy: Shadow Work, Power + Queer Transformation
Scorpio season runs from October 23rd to November 20th. In Astrology, Scorpio is the alchemist of the zodiac, the Fixed Water sign represented by the tenacious scorpion. Scorpio has two planetary rulers: Mars, which is personal power, and Pluto, which is collective power. This sign also governs the 8th house of money, specifically money owed, debts, loans, as well as power, addiction, death, sex, the occult, and anything else that is considered taboo.
The Zodiac wheel is a journey through the archetypes. Aries begins the journey with the individual sense of self, or ego. Next, Taurus represents the physical body and senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Gemini represents the mind with questions, stories, conversation, and communication. Cancer energy represents our emotional body, which consists of thoughts in our mind as well as feelings in our body.
As the second fire sign, Leo takes the individual sense of self that Aries established, and develops the ego more fully into the healthy form of self-love, or the unhealthy form of pride and vanity. As the second earth sign, Virgo refines the physical body and senses that Taurus has established, through the digestive system. Virgo energy transmutes any unhealthy patterns in the emotional and mental bodies into their highest vibrations of love and selfless service.
Next, Libra energy rules the balance of sacred relationships and begins shadow work season - a symbolic time of year for turning inward and searching for meaning. By understanding our patterns and habits better, we begin to integrate the “Shadow Self,” or the subconscious mind, into the conscious mind. This process of integration helps us make conscious decisions based in mindfulness, not reactivity. Shadow work deepens and intensifies with Scorpio season.
What are the positive qualities of Scorpio zodiac sign energy?
At a higher vibration, Scorpio energy becomes a healing vortex. These are the people who can sit with grief, pain, addiction, death, and collective shadow, without flinching. They understand that transformation requires the death of the old in order to make space for the new, and this gives them the powerful ability to alchemize the darkest of life’s difficulties into light, wisdom, and power. Scorpios don’t require comfort for survival - and in fact, they may gravitate towards the opposite. Towards extremes, intensity, dark depths, and a severe lack of security and stability. This makes them highly tenacious and resourceful. Scorpio energy does not skim the surface of life, but descends into the depths and treats the problem at the source. Much like an infected wound cannot heal, it’s not possible to “smooth over” untreated trauma. You have to address it. Scorpio energy wants to talk about the elephant in the room, which is a powerful ability.
What are the negative qualities of Scorpio zodiac sign energy?
Like all water signs, Scorpio is intuitive and perceptive, often sensing what others haven’t yet admitted to themselves. They can read a room with unnerving accuracy, for better or for worse. Their words can cut and an unhealed Scorpio can certainly have a cruel streak. But while they see through others easily, they only reveal themselves selectively… as a form of self-protection, or sometimes out of avoidance or fear of intimacy. Which is also valid, because Scorpio knows betrayal and trauma all too well, and may even consider these to be lifelong themes! At some point, vulnerability felt unsafe, and emotional or mental control became a survival strategy for Scorpio. At a lower vibration, this high emotional intelligence can warp into secrecy, manipulation, or emotional testing. Pain becomes a shield, and darkness becomes a hiding place where Scorpio energy can silently fester and rot.
